When is the Android app due for a new life?

Now, I do most of my iFixit-ing from the iFixit app. The app is fine for guides, but really is horrible for answers. When I open the app, I am presented with a device selection. After I select one, I tap to get the menu of the screen, swipe twice to get to answers (for that device), then click the iFixit logo up at the top. Then I will be at the home. From there I can go to answers. Really the only way I can access answers is technically through a back door. Not only that, but If I click on a photo, I can't go back, so I have to restart. If I need to access meta, my only route is searching for "Cameron" and access his contributions, then access his closed question about not being able to post on meta. Then I scroll down to where iRobot has a link to the migrated question, and click it. Now I'm in meta. Checking my notifications isn't very easy either, so Android notifications would really help. Thank you.

We do have some bug fixes coming to the android app — @tasp is working on that. We don't plan on adding better answers support to the app, though. I think if you're focused on Answers, then your better option is to use Chrome.

We can and should push notifications from the website to your app. I'll see what we can do on that.

Get an iMac ;-)

Apple banned the iFixit app. They didn't like the iFixit team tearing down their Apple 4 TV and machines and telling the world how to fix them. They want to retain exclusivity over repairs. They have made it increasingly difficult for third parties or individuals to do repairs. Pentalobe screws, proprietary hard drives, now proprietary flash drives, glued in batteries, non-upgradable machines. Now it appears they may be going for certified repairs. They want you to have to depend strictly on them.

Finally. Apple looses America's ignorance of repair, they loose money. All the other states will soon follow suit, along with Canada. The repair revolution has begun!

The way Apple has been behaving pretty much pushed me away from the Mac. The ones I like (2010 and under) are starting to get near the point they're almost at the end of their practical useful life as well, so there's not much left from Apple that I would want at this point. The exception could maybe be given to the Ivy Bridge 13" MBP but that's pretty much the only older machine from Apple I can tolerate that has useful life left. I like Mac OS X for what it can do but I'm not going to buy a machine I can't upgrade just for OS X.

For the past few years, I have been looking for a machine I can recommend to someone wanting to replace an old MBP, and I think I found it. From what I've seen on the HP ZBook (G2 and newer since HPE handles these), it looks like a really good candidate. 4 RAM slots on the full processor models, MXM GPU's, Quad core processors and a 3 year warranty standard. You can even get a calibrated display on them from the factory (the option is called HP DreamColor. It's basically like Premier Color from Dell). It has the upgrade headroom a modern Mac will likely never have again with a better warranty.
