Any news on the 2017 27" iMac Teardown?

Hi @kaykay

I know Apple pushed out a lot of new hardware at WWDC so the Teardown team was busy ;-}

I was hoping we would see a 27" teardown as well any idea when we will see it?

I've created a stub but for the life of me I can't seem to get it to fall into the correct location in the hierarchy. Can you fix this? https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_27%22...

Thanks!

Thanks KayKay for fixing the stub & checking on the teardown.

I actually went in and fixed it for you. What I did was "walked" it to where it should be, since it wouldn't go over any other way.

@oldturkey03 has @theimedic been active? It's been a week since his last report... I don't like it. Think we should do anything about it?

Also, did you delete your Christmas celebration post? I sent it to migrate to meta and never saw it again.

by

No to @theimedic yes to the Christmas post. As I mentioned in the post I was going to delete it. It had no place in answers and people started to complain a bit about those postings.

Hokay, soooo we don't have any plans to tear it down at the moment :/ We're saving our lunch money for the iMac Pro. We may get a unit to compare guide compatibility, but no promises on that front. Sorry about that!

iMac pro? I'd rather have a teardown of the next Mac pro. And the XB1X.

I think a good comparison with the older 5K model will be good enough! I don't think they altered that much. But you never know until you take a look.

Yes, the iMac Pro will be a good one to tear into for sure!

by

@pccheese Apple did not make any comments about a new MacPro that I heard. I fear they have abandoned it for the iMac Pro. I hope I am wrong.

by

@mayer Apple's gonna loose some serious buyers if they don't have a new Mac pro soon. @danj is already switching.

by

@mayer - Apple did assure people at the WWDC there will be a new Mac Pro which will have PCIe slots and upgradable RAM & Storage. So hang tight if that is your direction

@pccheese - Our big need was MacBook Pro's as we need to have serviceable storage & memory as well as USB-A ports. Sadly, they are no longer offering what we need for our field staff (somewhere around 400 - 500 systems).

Our desktop needs are a bit different as we have more Mac mini's now than iMac's as Apple's move to a less serviceable 'Thin Series' moved us that way for our low end systems and we still have a few older iMac's (2011) that are still meeting our needs so far. Our media group and engineering group use Mac Pro's for the big stuff (only 8 systems total). We do have a smattering of newer gear as well but no desire to move to it for the hard core field folks.
