What am I doing wrong?

I cannot seem to get moving with my answers. I hardly ever get my answer selected as answer, and it's even difficult to get votes. It's not the rep that I care about, but it seems as if people immediately dismiss my answers. Are they poor quality? Are my answers just bad? If that is the case I feel that my rep is not hard earned. I think I have some bang on answers once in a while that never even get looked at. Like this: https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/4014...

There's also this one (below). I answered in the comments. He ignored it multiple times, so I posted again as an answer. Later that day he restates what I told him to do, in the form of an answer. I knew the exact problem from the start

but he wouldn't listen. https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/4056...

Again, if my answers are the least bit hay-ward chew me out.

And respectfully, please don't tell me I need to get one thing and focus on it. Please, don't go there. I just want to know what's wrong with my current answers.

I looked at your answer to your first link.

Compare the brevity of the question to your answer. Did you manage to actually answer the question during your soliloquy? I felt like I was getting a lecture ;-)

Balance. When someone walks by and says, "how you doing?", they really don't want to hear about your colonoscopy.

I always say the usual.

That's why I called it the The "tl;dr part." Optional. Lecture- Errr, I read Jurassic park too often... :-)

by

Besides that, what's wrong with my answers? Try picking five random ones from my profile and grade them.

While you're at it, critique my guides, if you will?

by

Are you asking for a "tl;dr part." answer? Do you want some of the things I consider when giving an answer? Do you want honesty or are you going to try to defend each critique?

by

I want honesty. I will try very hard not to defend myself.

Link #2

you said "If you want a Linux-like eject in Windows" where did that come from? No mention of Linux was made. what the !&&* does that even mean?

He asking about formatting. Then you get into an argument with him defending your answer.

With answers like yours, "we don't need no stinking' questions".

Finally you insult @nick. You're lucky you didn't get a lot of down votes on this answer.

Dude! First of all it takes time to craft your answer making abilities. Second like seriously none of these people even come back. They just post and then continue to google how badly they've messed up, or don't want to spend money. People have been coming to me for years, and they're upset. Yeah they say it's money, but it's really about responsibility. They don't want to pay for something they've done. Anyways these people don't come back, and thus it's kinda difficult for your answers to get accepted. We all need to continually work on our craft, don't worry it will come in time

Your back! Jeez, next time you go for so long, warn us! @refectio had to man the iPhone boat by himself :-)

Anyway, the reason for my asking is because I just can't seem to get the upvotes or accepted answers as often as everyone else. The only reason I can think of is that my answers just aren't very good.

by

I'd say the majority of answers are moderator accepted. The OP's almost always never come back.

by

Shops gettin a make over. Construction, what can I say. Personals. Party season is here. Sorry, lil bro. Well he wasn't answering my texts either. Yeah @pccheese just keep at it. You're doing just fine. I know what it's like to get anxious. But if you're not experienced, going too fast will yield bad results. Don't be too hard on yourself. It'll happen when it happens

by

@nick I know and agree- I find it very odd that OP doesn't come back. But even in that case my answers are still less accepted.

by

They post it, fix it and then forget a lot of time. I can usually tell if the post was OP accepted by the time; the older the post the more likely the post was moderator accepted.

@pccheese let's look at a few things first. So you provided 367 solutions for a total of 11,355 rep points. That translates to almost 31 points per solution. That is pretty much the same as I myself have obtained. Do you feel cheated of points or just under appreciated? Where did you think you were going with those answers? What is your expectation? Repair maybe noble but do not do it for any kind of reward. As you yourself have previously stated, we do this to help people. If any of our answers only helped a single person, than it is mission accomplished. Any additional points will only be gravy. Your answers are good, yet sometimes very lengthy and wordy. Stop knocking around the bush and make your points when providing answers. You can always use comments to elaborate later. Sometimes the OP just does not want to know more than a single "fix this part".

Reward will come from your peers and from some of the more well rounded OP's. Those that have the maturity and understanding to recognize how much work goes into answering some of these questions. Young grasshopper, FOCUS on what's important. Help others to help themselves and empower those that want to be empowered.

He's right you know. Honestly I feel like a jerk with how short most of my answers. Ha there was a period of time where I just posted links to the parts and guides. No words

by

@theimedic you sure have come a long way. Glad you are safe.

by

I feel like the last 5k points where sorta cheated. You gave me a "boost" to get me to 10k faster. I would probably only be around 7k right now if it weren't for that. If I see you or Mayer answer a question I'll go to it just to upvote your answer. I suppose I'm expecting to much for being such recent member. What I really wanted is my answers to be nit-picked. I want to impress- I never want an answer that should be downvoted.

by

@pccheese "I want to impress" is the wrong reason for doing it. Stay humble and do what's right. It is not about the person that provides the answer, but about the person that seeks the answer. Each and everyone of us will learn from providing the answers. To be consistent with our answers we learn, research and study. Only if we gain knowledge for our self can we provide valid answers all the time. You will notice that there are people that show up and provide some good answers, but frizzle away because they have lost the interest in it. Young grasshopper, the secret to success is to focus and learn something new every day.

by

@oldturkey03 thank you, Uncle. @pccheese you're doing just fine. Yeah we coulda let you work for it. We just like you, and bumped it up, so you could get to celebrate your 10k bday sooner. Just cool down, live single moment by single moment. This will happen over the passage of time
