want to translate the guids

Hello! I like ifixit very much as it has helped me to fix lots of things and I want to help the project by translating guides, but when I tap on the redact button, it causes 403 error? Why does it happen so?

That's not good — you should be able to translate it! Can you post the link here that's giving you the 403 error?

Ah — I know the problem. We have not turned on community translation for Russian guides yet because we don't yet have a moderator that can review submissions. We're looking!

If you know someone, reach out to sandra.hiller at ifixit.com. Once we get a system in place, we'll open all the guides up to community translation.

In the meantime, we really need help translating the iFixit interface into Russian. Can you pitch in over here? https://translate.ifixit.com

@kyle Google translate has been extremely accurate since the last update. You might want to check it out. As long as there isn't slang or such it's bang on with common languages such as Russian.

Google translate is great for getting the gist of what's being said, but humans can always do better. For something like a complex repair, I always want to rely on a human. For example, google tends to translate 'captive screw' as 'prisoner screw.' Not very helpful! Our community translators often start with the machine translation and then fix the errors + add linguistic elegance.

@pccheese Google is great to get you started but missed the fine points. You will notice this when you try to translate common slang words as well a technical jargon. @kyle is exactly right (of course:-), you need the human factor for translations, especially for some of the eastern European languages.

Hmm...@oldturkey03 honestly this sounds like volunteer work. But..aha! Maybe a new group could be made, as I believe with most things, you don't just rely on one person, you create a group. In this instance it would be great if we could muster enough volunteers who speak enough languages who could work on this. Unless I'm just over complicating this

@theimedic you are absolutely right. This needs to be a group effort since everyone has their own linguistic style. One most also consider regional difference when it comes to languages.
