@kaykay Did you catch my email?

I did! I responded :) @danj

@kaykay Ask them where they got the idea to use a solvent on the battery.

by

I've heard the idea of alcohol thrown around in other circles, @mayer. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is using 3M VHB tape, which is strong enough that alcohol probably doesn't cut it to quickly remove the battery.

I posted it 4/18/15 https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/2015...

Because I came up with it.

@kaykay

Many of you may question my indignation about this and getting PO about it.

As an example, Leonardo dreamed of flying, even drew pictures of flying machines. But the Wright Brother got credit for it. Why? Because they actually DID IT. While your technical staff may have seen the problem, they didn’t solve it and wrote all those guides on using heat and using your openers and microwaved heat bags. Meanwhile, I figured out a solvent to use and actually DID IT and shared it right on this site. Then over two years later, iFixit announces their solvent and posts new guides and takes the credit for the resolution. Yes, I’m indignant.

The reason i started answering questions on this site is that on my very first question I ran into people that were bullshitters. It was very obvious to me that they didn’t know what they were talking about and had never actually done it. I have tried my best to get rid of this type of person on the site. Most of the answer providers today are experienced and don’t try to be something or know something that they don’t. If they don’t know, they extrapolate from what they do know, and do the research to give the best answer they can. I’d like to see it stay that way.

I'm with you on this - I'd also be !#^&@@ if I came up with the idea, was successful and someone just came along, took it and claimed it as their own while disregarding the people who got the conversation/concept going.

Mayer, your "indignation" sets everyone, and I mean everyone, on the right track. You make me feel like a private getting yelled at by a sargent, for the better. And I'm still waiting for that interview.

@pccheese Thanks. BTW your answers lately really show a growing maturity, good work corporal! Also @nick started out on the site at 14 years old and has become a consummate professional. He also does it. Take a look at some of his outstanding guides.

@pccheese I actually tried this Linux thing since 2013, and I wasn't successful the first time around due to lack of experience. Fast forward 4 years and I've got it down to a point I have been able to make it work. The trick is to start small and go big later, rather then going too quickly. If you want to see I started those guides in 2013, this can be proven with the edit history on the 2008-2012 Laptop guide, along with the Ubuntu Wiki. I was more successful this time because I had the experience of knowing what *not* to do and using more distros. I also had more experience this time as well, which made it easy this time.

On the other hand if I didn't fail trying to make Linux work in 2013 (and failed), I may not have been as successful as I was when I tried again in 2015.
