Does anyone have information on the Xbox One Elite controller?

Since I have written most of the Device pages for the Xbox One controller, I figured I should have enough information on the Elite controller to start working on the Elite controller Device page, although I do not own one.

The reason I have never owned one (and why I am not actively looking) is related to 3 main factors:

  • 1) Nobody has offered me a dead one to try and fix (they are hard to find and rarely show up). I also do not have spare parts for the Elite controller.
  • 2) I can't use the back paddles (and likely, the second mode) because I do not use Windows 10 and Microsoft holds those functions back unless you want to use W10. I don't see the point to getting a controller I can't use everything on yet the standard controller is common and easy to find (and everything works).
  • 3) I may have to clear any custom settings through an Xbox console or on a Windows 10 machine, I can't just fix the problem with what I have like I do with the pairing on used controllers. Not an issue, but at most slightly annoying.

Since I do not own one and I only know so much, I have limited what I covered to what I know is true about the controller. What I need done is I need someone who has used one extensively or owns one to double check my work and make sure everything is correct.

If I have missed a feature, didn't mention something specific about the controller that's a key point, listed an incorrect or non-existent feature, worded something badly that could be written better this information will be very helpful. Even if I did something as simple as incorrectly describe something about this controller, let me know so I can correct it. This controller is fairly unique and you really should own one or you probably don't know everything about it that someone who has one does.

We've actually got a student team going to work on one of these in the fall, so you're bound to get a little bit of help in a few months' time. Their work is usually limited to some basic research and writing a handful of removal/replacement guides for the major components, but considering how much info you've already amassed here that ought to round things out pretty nicely. :)

That's because I've looked into getting one broken and repairing it, since I don't see the point to buying them new when I already know where they fail regularly. I was mainly seeing if the benefits of this controller outweigh the difficulty of trying to find one, especially since I'm hesitant to use Windows 10 (which means I automatically lose some functionality).

I guess this could be looked at as a head start for the students to get their side done quicker as well.
