SATA to USB optical drive adapter from dual drive kit not working

I got the kit that allows me to add a HD instead of my optical drive which works great.

Sadly I now can't seem to be able to use my optical drive with the special adapter that comes in the kit. I was wondering if there's something I should be doing more then just plugging it in.

What hard drives are you using and what drive is in the optical bay?

I'm going to assume you're using the optical drive externally and there's a second hard drive where the optical drive used to be.

Laptop optical drives should be able to run on USB bus power, so I'd be suspect of your optical drive or the adapter. If it does it on another computer, I'd get the optical drive adapter replaced. If it doesn't work on another computer, it's probably a optical drive fault.
