Feedback: Using FixBot in Answers

Hi! We've been noodling on using FixBot to help out with Answers, but I'd like to get all of your feedback on it.

Despite everyone's amazing efforts, we still don't have an answers to as many questions as we like. FixBot can help fill in the gaps where we have repetitive questions, low effort questions, or just didn't have the right expert on hand the day the question came in.

We are going to start with a few experiments:

Prompting the user for more detail for their question

Reformatting questions to be more useful

Answering old, stale and unanswered questions. (Like this and this and this.)

When we answer questions as FixBot, we want to be respectful in how we do it. We're initially thinking of having FixBot post like any other community member, with posts that can be voted up and down.

What do you think? How can we make this helpful and additive to the community? What kind of safety checks would you like to see in place?

How to I report a bug?

How do i report a bug in the solder station?

I know it can also be used as a pd power supply. When i plug in my s24 ultra, my s23 ultra, or my friends s24 plus it will only output 2.2 watts.

However using the very same usb cord my steam deck will charge at 46.8 watts.

When i have my phone plugged in and charging at 2.2 watts, i plug in the solder iron into the other port. It automatically switches the display, i press the blue button to change the display to the side my phone is on, it goes to 18.9 watts.

Then i unplug the solder iron and temporary drops to 0.5 then up to 27.2 but after about one minute drops to 9.6. But my Samsung has 45 watt charging. Yes fast charging is on. And my steam deck will happily take 45 watts from the ifix it station.

If my solder iron is plugged in first, then i plug in my phone it will only ever go to 2.2 watts for the port my phone is in. If i unplug then plug in the iron it goes up.

This is all with the solder iron physical switch off.

If i turn on the solder iron the 18.9 drops to 9.0, i get that as the iron needs a lot of power so I totally understand when the iron is turned on that the output of the second port be lowered.

Now when i have my steam deck plugged in and it is drawing 46 watts, i plug in the iron, still turned off but plugged in, the side for the steam deck goes down to 18.5. If i turn on the iron it drops to 17.0. That is perfectly expected.

It seems the stations is cutting power back from the steam deck in anticipation for the iron to be used.

if i plug in my phone and steam deck, the deck charges at 26.4 and the phone only 2.2, then i unplug the deck and the phone goes up to 26.2.

i plug the deck back in and it goes to 37.9 but the phone goes to 15.3.

If i only plug in the phone it only ever charges at 2.2. Ever.

I have updated the iron and station software.

It is a very high quality usb cord capable of 100 watts.

I tried turning off and on the station, phone and deck.

It seems to me there is a bug in the power delivery and i hope i provided enough details for it to be sorted out.

Ifixit said to report it here but i found no option to report a bug so i hope this is the right place. If not can someone please tell me where.

It will be rare that i use the station as a battery bank to charge my phone so this is not a big deal for me, but it may be for others.

FixHub - a dead project?

When I bought the FixHub soldering station, I hoped it was a project with a real future. Since it’s supposed to be a “hub,” I expected it wouldn’t stop at a single accessory and that new modules and tools would appear over time.

But even the existing ecosystem doesn’t seem to be evolving. There are no new soldering tips, and firmware updates mostly focus on fixing old bugs while introducing new ones.

Here are two suggestions for future development:

> the ability to adjust the temperature starting from 50°C

> a new tip designed for installing heat-set insert nuts

We lost paragraph formatting! And line spacing in the posting.

@krisrodriguez - If you compose a Question or Answer and even a Comment the paragraph formatting is present with a hard return, but if you go back in to edit the text the formatting is not present 🤯

To add to this the 'Header' is now a triple space where only a double should be present at most ideally a 1 1/2 line to be more readable and not over do the white space as seen here.

A Header

As an example here in this post but it's not altered into a larger font when I created it and with a Sub header...

A Sub Header

The visible font gets greyed but its size is no different to the rest of the text! So only after you save it it shows the correct font size and font color Bold in a header and Grey in the Sub Header.

Also note there are Seven hard returns present in this post which will get lost if one looks at it again in edit as you can see in this image

Update (05/06/26)

Here's today edit as we can see nothing has changed. Here's an image of the Answer

And here's what you see in edit mode

In this case we do have a hard return between the older entry and the new, but we lost the font and size of Update and even my attention here to bold it is not visible in this write up after hitting the menu button, here I had to use three Stars * to make it visible.
