Are u asking for a scientific measurement of the polarity/strength of the magnets? Theyre obviously just strong to engage the case, but not strong enough to damage any components inside. There's a question right under this one which is similar.
Read moreI must agree that pricing is not one of iFixit's strong points. When I first discovered this site, I had the daunting task of almost completely rebuilding the Macbook my crazed girlfriend tap danced and stomped on. One example is the Optical Drive I found on the site. It was a used older optical drive and I found a newer one that was actually the latest Optical Drives for the pro at the time (UJ865A) for HALF the price as the older and used one. I believe that if iFixit makes their prices more competitive, they will be a force to be reckoned with being that we have the power of directing possible customers to not only guides necessary for repair, but also the parts at a reasonable price. Although there will be short term profit hit, in the long run you'll gain customers who will eventually revisit and purchase again, which means more profit in the long-run.

Read moreI personally dont think that ANYONE should be exempt from the point system, regardless of how they contribute to the site. BUT, I do believe that employees should be classified as such. I have contributed very little to iFixit, but the little that I have contributed was because of what I have attained and learned from the volunteers here. These people should be praised, not only for their expertise, but for the valuable time they spend on the site helping people for no compensation. In all actuality these people are the backbone of this site. Chris's idea gets a plus from me, it works for both sides. And i say that from an unbiased point of view because im not an employee, nor am I a major contributing volunteer like the rest of the patrons here. There's no need for division, we're all in this together: employees and volunteers, and we have ONE unified goal, and thats to help people fix things. In my opinion, the sum of the "whole" is always greater than the sum of its "parts", why divide?
Read moreThis is a touchy issue. I can understand both parts of the arguement. Personally I say it's up to the staff here at ifixit to make the decision. Apple facilitated my EX-girlfriend by showing her how to override my password and get access to my MacBook while I was In school and my MacBook ended up being destroyed because of it. I called Apple and asked why they would tell someone how to override my password without my authority and their answer was that as long as whoever is calling with this type of inquiry has the serial number to the device in question that they disclose any information pertinent to the inquiry. So, in other words people can just call Apple or visit an Apple forum and find out how to override or delete a password. so, if we don't do it here then people will just find out somewhere else to get the information. Luckily my logic board remained intact but the rest of my machine was destroyed, Although Apple facilitated this by showing an unauthorized user how to gain access to my machine...
