@mayer I can understand your concerns. I can't speak for the company as a whole when I say this, but I do think a bit of playful banter can be helpful in cementing the community aspect of a successful forum. It's true that most people come to iFixit for quality information, and can do without the social niceties. It's tough to stay on topic 24/7, though. I know my customers usually appreciate it when I take a "real" approach with them, since we're all human. Much better to be speaking to a supportive human than a robot! That said, I'm not sure playful banter could be considered "repair-related," and I'll leave it up to the other iFixit staff members if they want to moderate any of those comments. It was all happening in a comment thread instead of inside the answer, and that's good because a lot of users won't bother expanding all those comments to read through everything. That's one of the top benefits of voting an answer Most Helpful--casual forum visitors don't have to scroll through everything to find...

Shipping regulations surrounding lithium ion batteries prohibit us from sending batteries via air travel right now, and none of our shipping carriers ship via ground transport to other countries. As to your question, @mayer and @soros are both correct. Many companies who offer free shipping are subsidizing the shipping costs with their other profits. We are happy to be able to do this with certain iFixit Pro orders. Currently, if your order is over $399 on a Pro account, you get free standard shipping.
