From the Team iFixit to you:

Hi everyone,

I wanted to drop in and let you know that we had an all staff meeting (something we call an All-hands meeting in the tech biz) and I was fortunate enough to present about our community!

Who y’all are, what y’all do, why y’all do what you do. I talked about the Answers forum, Meta, Mods, long-time and brand-new loyal community members, and what kinds of things are getting posted and answered in all of these places. Without going into the gritty details of what I explained, I want to jump to the last slide that was a group effort from all of the iFixit staff.

I gave all of our staff a prompt “What does the iFixit community mean to you?” These words went into a word cloud generator and this is what we made:

(If you’re not familiar with a word cloud, people submit individual words and the more a word is mentioned, the larger it gets.)

@amber and all of the iFixit staff. I guess we are all speechless and humbled by your recognition. As you know we are a very shy and amicable group of individuals (*^ ‿ ⁢*) Anyhow, I can only speak for myself. It is and has been my honor and pleasure to be part of this community. To help others out by sharing ideas, repairs, and knowledge is the least I can do. If it saves some body some hard earned money and keeps things from being discarded, then it is worth my time. Thank you all for your kind words!!!!

I'm empowered and inspired in this global movement each time I witness wins by fellow fixers. The interest and impact of change through communal efforts is how one voice can grow into a great many. Speak your truths — keep on fix'n.

@ngurney I appreciate your kind words. Thank you. (What happened to the curbside van in your profile?)

by

I think that was a few days after I got Furn(ace), an old Wonder bread truck. I see a bottle of brake fluid, must have been flushing and bleeding the clutch and brake lines!

by

@ngurney Awesome! Junior and I were working on a short skoolie but have to put in on hold for a while. To hot here and it just takes a lot of work and time to work on any beast like that or the curbsides.

by

@oldturkey03 a lot of time...and then some more time...

@sandrahiller thank you very much. We are not just a community of Fixers but a community of diverse background, yet we do get along and work on a common goal. If we can do it then anyone can do it. Keep working on getting people to understand this ;-)

I will @oldturkey03 , if I could only find someone like you on every continent, this would make it so much easier ;-) And thanks for reminding us to update our profiles on meta as well, I just did!

I've seen the iFixit Answers community grow over more than a decade, and I'll never stop being amazed by the intelligence and grace you all share with the world. I've benefitted from your knowledge personally: You all have helped me fix my laptop and my mother-in-law fix everything from her front door to a paper shredder.

And as someone on the advocacy side of iFixit, I've been especially impressed to watch the repair advocacy that's grown out of this community—most recently, RDKLinc's recent work pushing back against unfair eBay refurbisher program policies.

Lots of you are also doing amazing things outside this community, too (my first thought was Old Turkey's frontline COVID work but I know he's far from the only one).

Please keep being awesome, fixing the world, and helping the world fix itself. We see you and appreciate all your work!

I always love seeing how much activity there is in Answers, but seeing the quantity and types of posts on Meta gives the the most satisfaction. I'm proud to have helped build a space for such a great community, and I'm honored that so many like-minded internet strangers continue to participate year after year in the spirit of helping. I know I've benefited from answers to my own questions and others. My parents have also been personally helped with some tricky appliance problems by some very generous community members. So thank you, iFixit Answers community, for all the repair advice, moderation support, and for maintaining a positive, helpful spirit. I am eternally grateful.

@amber & All - All I can say is WOW! Yes, that's what its all about! The collective collection of people who care. Not only for the people who have something broken but also keeping one less thing out of the waste bin a bit longer!

Yin and Yang

Everything in the universe is connected. You are the universe. Simply put, Zen practitioners believe that our environment is deeply interconnected, sometimes known as the butterfly effect, as the flap of butterflies’ wings in one place can reverberate quite loudly in another. So we do need to be careful as it can have a sizable effect! We've not been very good to mother earth and she is fighting us! Even though our efforts are small they do add up!
