Back it down to moderate or keep Difficult?

guide link

I got a comment on this guide recently-ish saying this should be rated as "moderate", despite backing it back up to difficult as a response to someone having issues with the process I use on these PITA HPs. This is not an issue on the newer models which are built with repair in mind.

I recently got a comment about backing it down to Moderate which I shot down at the time due to the issue. However, I have reviewed the guide and think I may be better off backing it to moderate with a PITA warning, but I'm still hesitant to avoid a repeat of the incident where I ran into bad edits and a comment thread.

Should I keep this as difficult or just attach a PITA warning and rate it as moderate? The author's note is not a deterrent to not fix these, just explaining the mindset behind the rating and making it clear these are a blunder chassis.

Hi @nick, I just wanted to let you know I'm looking into this and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience!!

@amber The PITA warning is more of a "you were warned this laptop is awful to work on" type, without discouraging people from opening it.

I own it now, and while I want to add an SSD, I'm put off by the absurdity to do so for a laptop with a realistic lifespan of 2 years if we're talking Windows here. Since I have the one with the nonstandard WLAN card PCB which looks freakishly similar to a half-height mSATA card (263nr) I can't just hope it's WL free and drop a normal Intel AC card in here and make it work better with Linux, unless I find normal holes hiding under that card.

@amber from what I know about this (prefacing this with the prerequisite experience of bad design) Difficult with a warning is where it feels like should stand.

I agree with this. It's the sort of repair that novice repairers should approach with caution. IMO, it's better someone does a repair and finds it easier than they anticipated rather than getting halfway through and getting stuck.

@amber It’s easy for those of us who went up against these issues before but for someone who is new who isn’t ready for what they’re going up against yeah this is not easy.

Publishing guides for these bad designs is not my concern; I’d rather see people find safer ways in like I had to for maintenance when it wasn’t mine. My concern is making the procedure look like something it isn’t and would rather position it as an awful repair for beginners.
