Title:

SEO Considerations (Follow vs. NoFollow)

Text:

I will tag @evan on this question because I don't really know who I should address it to within the iFixit men and women of power (for good measure, I'll add @kaykay and @kyle).

I have been doing a bit of research on SEO lately and I noticed that any links generated from my profile page are tagged as NoFollow. My understanding is (I'm still a neophyte) that Google doesn't pass along as much (or any) link juice (I didn't make this up ;>) to the "referred to" site when that tag is in place. Link juice is important for increasing your website's authority and therefore page ranking when people search on Google.

Now I understand why iFixit would want to set NoFollow as a default in order to discourage spammers from overtaking the Forum with useless contributions solely for the purpose of backlinks. However, I wonder if exceptions could be made for the "real" contributors to the success of this website. Perhaps only giving out Follow links from the profile page when a threshold Reputation limit is achieved would discourage spammers but compensate true contributors.

Let's discuss!
