MacBook Pro - Flexgate Part2!

Looks like the 2018 models have slightly longer backlight & iSight cables! Good catch folks! I hadn’t noticed.

IFIXIT Blog: Apple’s 2018 MacBook Pro’s Attempt to Solve Flexgate, Without Admitting it Exists

And the word has also hit the streets as well: Apple quietly addressed ‘Flexgate’ issue with MacBook Pro redesign

Sad part here is anyone with a 2016 or 2017 won’t benefit from this. Still Apple has other display issues with the video cables. With a good bang on the clutch cover area can damage them. Apple would need to strengthen the clutch cover so its more protective to fix this one.

The other issue is the defuser sheets can curl up from heat and humidity causing a darkened area (bar) along the edge. No fix for this one other than replacing the display assembly.

The repair parts will have the same problem ...

If I could get the part directly from Apple I might be able to tell. Sadly, I have to use alternate ways to get parts (used or 3rd party) so they may not have a longer cable.

Then you have to consider the time it takes for the new part to work its way through the supply chain.

We actually didn't have a 2017 model available for comparison. I'd love to know at what point they started doing this. Our 2018 model is a launch-day system, so the fix was definitely in place by then.

FYI - We have now three reports of video cable failures in Answers, and I've seen one directly. In my case the clutch cover was cracked pointing to the issue as being a bang, their maybe more than one cause.
