Is there a tool kit with custom bit selection on the horizon?

I have a couple of the Mako kits, but I don’t use the majority of the bits. Is there a custom tool kit option on the horizon? Something where a case a driver combo could be chosen with the option to select the bits included. Selecting individual bits might be too granular, but perhaps by group or type. Such as flat head, hex key, hex driver, specialty, etc.. Possibly with the option of multiples of the same group.

Consumers could select the groups that meet their needs, instead of having to purchase a 64 bit kit to get the 10 or so bits they use.

Personally, I remove the bits I don’t use and fill the empty spaces with extras of the ones I use most often. Unfortunately from a source other that Ifixit, due mostly to the cost of individual bits and no option to purchase multi-packs at a discounted rate.

I would be willing to pay somewhere around 50% more for the custom option.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

As you said choosing bit by bit may be too difficult to maintain however if I that was an option I would absolutely go for it! Every month or 2 I need to get some replacement bit packs as colleagues “misplace them” after borrowing them so getting a selection of exactly what I’m missing would be a game changer! As common as the phillips head screw is, I doubt I will burn through the 20+ phillips bits I have anytime soon, and “purchasing” a new one with every bit pack kills me inside.

Hi @applearcher,

Thank you for reaching out! Can you tell me more about what you mean by buying multi-packs? I’m sending this info upstream to the people who should hear these types of good ideas and I’d like to be as specific as possible.

We do sell singles of iFixit 1/4" Screwdriver Bits and iFixit Precision 4 mm Screwdriver Bits. Maybe these can help replace your long lost bits? (<—@smashedliam, this might help you, as well!)

If not, a different avenue to go down would be to look at the Moray Driver Kit or the Minnow Driver Kit. Both are smaller and less expensive than our larger bit sets.

Let me know if you have more questions/suggestions and I hope this info helps!
