Does iFixit have any plans to update the PS3 YLOD guide?

After starting a discussion with someone in the iFixit Answers forum, I realized that iFixit YLOD guide only provides a temporary solution (heating up the board), whereas the permanent solution is to replace the NEC/TOKIN capacitors on the board with new capacitors (most commonly MLCCs).

Does iFixit plan to update the official guide or should I create a new guide linking to a helpful video(not made by me) and the parts needed to fix the YLOD problem?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Good question, @andrewsawesome, I'll look into the plans and let you know. Thanks for pointing this out!

@andrewsawesome great guide! Quick question regarding ownership of it. Is "Shawn Shakir" aware of it and okay with it being used as a guide?

@oldturkey03 I have not contacted them.

@andrewsawesome I think you should. Seems it'll be only fair to the creator of that video to get some credit for their work.

Hi @andrewsawesome!

Our tech writers are booked out pretty far with all of the devices they are (and will be) working on for a while. If you’re able to start a new repair guide to address this problem, that would be great! We love to see our users taking charge on helping fix common problems.

If you have the time, to start transcribing the repair process to written steps from the video you post, that would be amazing! If not, be sure to tag it with “Needs Transcription”.

Let me know if you need anything. =]

Thanks @andrewsawesome!

@krisrodriguez Will take a look at this when when she has some time available. (May be a little while, we've been super busy with some end of year stuff.)

@andrewsawesome , I will definitely take a look. As @amber said we're tying up end of the year stuff. But I will get to it as soon as I can. Thank you so much for taking charge of this information gap :)

@andrewsawesome Your guide is looking good. Thank you for giving credit to the OP. I only added a "needs bullets" flag so that you (or another contributor) can remember to adjust your bullets accordingly. Please let me know once you're done so I can take another look.
