FixMat not ESD capable

As a technician trained in and with and used ESD approved devices, this Ifixit FixMat, has a 'logo' on it saying it is ESD safe.
This fixMat is NOT ESD safe, as there is no way to connect it to a Ground point/location. This is essential with all ESD safe devices.
ifixit should have an ESD connection on the FixMat to connect an approved ESD strap or anchor. Until then, please just use it as a spot to place items, and make sure YOU are ESD Grounded when handling the items from the FixMat.
Also connect a ESD clip to the electronic device you are repairing.
FYI you can connect to a power cable plugged in, or directly to a USB female shield connector.

@maehaa , The FixMat is made of Static-Dissipative materials, meaning that any accumulated charge will disperse across the surface of the mat and there won't be any localized voltage differences across the mat.

If the mat were connected to a grounding point, the mat would then be grounded. You can do this with an alligator clip or other means of connecting a conductive wire to the surface of the mat.

If you choose to not ground the mat, you can equalize the voltage between the device your working on and the mat simply by touching the device (before you've started taking it apart) and the mat at the same time.

You can also ground yourself to the FixMat using our ESD wrist straps.

@krisrodriguez - I think the person is expecting a ESD cable snap like what 3M does on there products. I confess I prefer the snap as I use a phono plug cable to tie to my outlet’s box ground which I’ve verified is tied to a ground in my basement (copper cold water line). The alligator clip tends to slip off or get pulled and is not as good a conductor.
