Portable PPS for FixHub
Hi,
I'm sure iFixit has plans on how to expand the lineup around the portable FixHub soldering station.
Similar to Potential FixHub solder gun, it would be really useful to me to have not only a portable soldering station, but also a portable programmable power supply.
There are already great projects out there:
- PocketPD (Hackaday): leverages USB-C PD PPS which the FixHub unfortunately does not support, but the form factor is gorgeous. Up to 20V output (limited by USB-C PD)
- DIY standalone PPS (Makerworld): built-in battery. Accepts USB-C as input and output. A bit bulkier, still portable. Up to 36V output
- FixPD (Hackaday): Similar to PocketPD, but does not rely on USB-C PD PPS, which makes it compatible to the FixHub. Up to 20V output (limited by USB-C PD)
Except for PocketPD, which unfortunately is not compatible with the FixHub, most projects are DIY and not ready to buy, which creates a barrier for people that want to use, but do not have the possibility to build it on their own.
Don't get me wrong here. DIY is a great thing. However, a power supply is a thing that should just work and not be messed with as it can potentially destroy the thing that is hooked up to it.
So my question: What about a PPS for FixHub directly from iFixit?
Is this a worthwhile discussion?
