How to fix this dead Multimeter

A friend used my multimeter and left it on. Now all I get is a dead screen. Are there batteries in it? How do I open it? Please don't tell me that iFixit sells a non-repairable tool.

If you remove the rubber bumper around the multimeter, you will see a battery access panel on the lower back. Replace the 9v battery behind the panel to be back up and running. You may need a Phillips #1 or #0 screwdriver to access it*

  • I don't have one in front of me, this is all from memory, so correct me if I got any of it wrong.

Eric, Thanks, I didn't realize that the green rubber would peal back if started from the top juncture. I replaced the battery and have a working tool again.

My multimeter died and I found oxidation and crusty around the batteries. I cleaned it not great but cleaned it, replaced the batteries, but it died real quick. I replaced batteries again and cleaned crusty off with q tips an h202 and it won't turn back on. Do I have to go deeper and clean inside?

It's a total loss. Sounds like the meter was damaged beyond repair and your cleaning didn't help.
