OEM (original equipment manufacturer)?

are there really OEM parts in the market? Who sells these OEM parts to the market? Foxconn to chineese suppliers? Or are these OEM parts sold direct from the manufacturer ( like lcd from lg, glass from corning)

My other question is that, does the corning company sell their products to the market? Or do they sell it only to apple (or other licensors like samsung, htc..). And where is the glass and the lcd from lg assemblied? Where are they come together?

I think there are new 'conventions' that come from how most people buy parts from China and interact with Chinese parts sellers.

I answered an email from Erhan about a week ago that was this identical question.

In my response, I let him know that the word I use when looking for essentially "OEM" parts for mobile device repair is "original quality" This term--original--is used by China to differentiate parts that are really difficult to distinguish from true OEM parts, from "high copy" or "copy" parts.

In a nutshell--

Original = a good part

High copy= an imitation that will be less reliable, more breakable, and clearly inferior

Copy= oh my. no.

In my experience, everyone understands what original quality means and you can predict what you will get when you order original parts. The term OEM has been bastardized in this industry. Legitimate domestic parts sellers do not use this term, so it really has come to mean high copy parts being sold on Amazon and eBay and marketed to those who don't know any better.

Erhan Yildirim, there are no real OEM parts on the market. The parts that are commonly listed as OEM, are usually manufactured to OEM specs. Only Apple will have OEM parts and they will not wholesale or retail those parts. Apple authorized repair centers will only have OEM parts for replacement. Manufacturers of OEM parts are most likely contractually prohibited from selling those parts to anybody else. Just my 2 cents....

What is the difference between oem and original?

Not quite sure what you mean. Here is a good definition "original equipment manufacturer, which is a misleading term for a company that has a special relationship with computer producers. OEMs are manufacturers who resell another company's product under their own name and branding.

Original and oem are the same thing in terms of this discussion. There are oem parts out there but it depends on what your looking for.
