We lost notification pop up
The pop up appears to have stopped dropping down when your answer was accepted.

The dropdown message you're referring to was part of our old notification system, which we are in process of phasing out. We still notify you when your answer has been accepted -- It has just moved to the notifications dropdown over on the right side of the page header. Here's what you should be seeing:
If you have a lot of old notifications, it might make it difficult to notice new ones coming in. Using the "Mark all as Read" button can help clear out the cobwebs.

mmm... I really liked the realtime notification aspect of it. Is it possible to enable a realtime notification beep or other more visible flag? So you can respond to someones query?
I also miss when I have dismissed a question which I've answered and has been accepted within my subscribed list. Then later on getting put back in my subscribed list when someone has added a comment or another answer (follow up question).
The new notification system is realtime! You should see notifications about events coming in as they happen. We don't yet have a sound that plays as things come in (thanks for the tip), but there are a couple visual flags. The page title should change to include the number of new notifications you've received since you loaded the page, and the badge in the header also will update to show the number of new notifications you have. Clicking on a notification in the dropdown should take you to the relevant place on the site to follow up on that notification.
How about the "Star Spangled Banner" playing when an answer is accepted? Maybe some fireworks? Cowboy's cheerleaders waving pompoms? NYC ticker tape parade? Maybe a little ding?
