Why are iPhone 5c and 5s batteries different?

Hello,

I was ordering parts on eBay for a iPhone 5s. I then went on ifixit for guide and saw that battery on ifixit. It says for 5s only, but the 5s and 5c batteries are interchangeable. Why are they separate?

P.s. I haz a bad stomach ache and won't be on until tomorrow

The batteries do interchange, but the 5c battery does not last as long in the 5s. 5s in 5c lasts longer. Charger time will be longer since the 5s has a slightly larger capacity. They are interchangeable. Hope your stomach ache went away.

I wonder why Apple made different capacities for the exact same battery lol

I think the battery is slightly thicker.

@benjamen50 makes sense since there is a relationship between mass and capacity. Trying to remember where I have the research study that showed it. Only thing I remember for sure is that Lithium Cobalt battery has a higher energy density that a Lithium Iron battery. Equal batteries should have equal weight and the one that holds a higher capacity has greater weight, thus larger size.

No idea. They always work cross compatible. In fact they should just be called iPhone 5s 5c battery.

For my testing battery it says for 5c but I use it in 5s too and it works fine.
