How to add Business to iFixit Local?

I was calling for a part today and heard since you don't offer repairs you invite customers to go to iFixit.com/local. How does a business owner add their business for customers to find? I only see the big box stores.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Gabe,

Great question. You're right...we get a lot of inquiries if iFixit offers repair services. We do not, and we're happy to refer those customers to a certified repair shop in their local market. All repair outfits that join iFixit Pro (free to join) have access to become iFixit MasterTech Certified. Once the certification is successfully passed, we display your business profile on our guides to anyone within a 20-30 mile radius of your business' location. We call that "Lead Generation".

Here are some quick links to learn more about iFixit Pro, the iFixit MasterTech Certification, and our Lead Generation program.

iFixit Pro: http://pro.ifixit.com/#pro

iFixit MasterTech Certification: http://mastertech.ifixit.com

Lead Generation: http://pro.ifixit.com/lead-generation/

Hope this is helpful!

What about techs that don't fix phones? iFixit used to be all about fixing Macs and it seems that the certification is only for iPhones. I'm sure people call for computer repair as well no? Any other way for computer techs to get on that list?

@kaykay @kevinferrell Are ya'll telling me I have to be certified by you to get listed? On phones ? You really don't want my response to that BS. I would appreciate the courtesy of a complimentary listing for the knowledge and expertise already demonstrated.

@kelsea Would you mind fixing this? I've been indignant to much on this site the last couple of weeks and I don't want to go off on a rant but you not listing me is a real slap in the face.

@gabe You're right- for now, the iFixit MasterTech Certification is limited to mobile phones. The ultimate goal for the certification is that we'd be able to certify technicians in tablet repair, computer repair, and lots of other repairs as well. By joining iFixit Pro, your business page will be listed in the business listings. But for now, the iFixit MasterTech Certification is the only way to be shown to local users in your area.

@kevinferrell - Can we get together at the un-conference to hash out a set of tests for MacBooks, MacBook Pro's, iMac's and Mac Pro's. I'm sure we could at least get a framework worked out for them. I'm Sure @mayer & @oldturkey03 would help out as well.

@danj @oldturkey03 Whatcha got in mind? A general Mac knowledge quiz, certifications in Mac laptops, iMac and MacPros? Years ago Apple at Cupertino or a regional office like Dallas, gave you a printer or a Mac and you had to diagnose what was wrong and repair it, but that requires being on site. Later they had a manual (Desktops and Portable Systems) with a teaching portion then a multiple guess quiz after that. I'm not sure what they're doing on line now, but from what I've seen of the new tech they wouldn't know a SCSI from an IDE, only current stuff. Do we want different levels of certification, like a basic concepts, diagnostic methods, intermediate, Advance and Master levels? Apple cert 1979-84. Mac 1984 -97, G3 1997-2001. G4s 2000-2005, G5 2003-2006. Or just group them as legacy Motorola processor machines. Intels', 2007 to present. I still have examples of probably 60% of all the machines 1984 to 2012 on hand.

I have this in PDF format if you want me to send you a copy. I also have, probably all of the Service Source PDFs. I don't know if they are still available via ftp.
