The Bug Catchers Net: Q2 2024
Hello Meta!
We really appreciate you sharing bugs (big and small) so we can keep our site running smoothly. Here's our new folder!
For an inside peak on how we do things, as sometimes it may seem like nothing happens with these, this is what we do with your bugs:
- I write up your bug in a report for our QA and Developer teams.
- QA works their magic to replicate the bug. If we can't make it happen again, we can't figure out how it went wrong.
- Once we know exactly what's wrong, QA sends the bug report to our developers where it gets ranked against all the work the developers do (which is a lot). Bugs that are annoying but not preventing the site from working will rank lower than something that prevents users from doing stuff. They also go up against long term projects, improvements, and general maintenance.
- Sometimes, if a bug isn't such a big deal and we have a project coming up that will have the developers poking around in the same pile of code, we'll set it aside for when that time comes.
Remember, share as much detail as you have about the bug (the more we know, the faster we can fix it):
- Where you saw it (URL's are great!)
- What you were trying to do and what happened instead.
- Screenshots if you’ve got ‘em!
As always, thank you for your dedication to our site!
Is this a worthwhile discussion?

@damaj301damaj, thank you! I'll get this over to our dev team for them to look into it.

@damaj301damaj, we're working on figuring this out. We have a couple of questions for you.
Video #1: Please let us know if this is correct. We suspect the problem is that the editor is removing whitespace when you paste in a segment that has leading whitespace. Is this correct?
We were unable to reproduce this issue on mobile Android. Can you tell us if this is happening in mobile Chrome or Firefox?
Video #2: We suspect the simple line break (done by hitting shift + enter) is rendered in the editor as that arrow. A full line break (done by hitting enter) is rendered in the editor as a line break (no character).
We think the confusion is from expecting the simple line break character (arrow) to render when creating a full line break in the editor. We think you might have deleted the simple line break arrow and added a full line break, which explains why a simple line break isn't showing up.
How did you get simple line breaks on mobile? Did you paste the text with simple line breaks into the editor?
