iFixit markup tool bug report

This bug was found when I was making some final edits on a guide. Since I am working on this guide, I am changing a lot of content to the point many of the pictures are being refreshed. As a result of refreshing the pictures, I also need to replace (and in some cases, improve) my markups.

What I am finding is when I try and use the markup tool, I am having issues with my markups NOT showing up and the tool failing to work when this happens. I have seen this happen multiple times so it isn't a one time fluke and is likely a bug. It's very intermittent as well (as in sometimes it works, sometimes and doesn't and sometimes you need to try a fairly signifigant amount of times to get it to work), so it may not show up readily. However, it becomes more frequent as you use the markup tool over time. When the tool fails, it will always fail in the way my screenshots show.

The markeup tool fails in a way that when this happens, I can't use it until I can get it to load correctly. It has happened in Media Manager AND in guides when I load it from the gear in the lower corner. I can usually tell when the marks don't show up.

That being said my computer has a tendency to throttle at times so there's a slim chance it was caused by that.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hey Nick, I'm not sure what the behavior is specifically.

The bug is that, when you refresh the page, with media manager and the markup tool open, the markup disappears?

Or. The bug is that the media manager and markup tool is up, and the markup can't be applied to the image, or can't be seen?

@sam I've added those details to the post.

I've asked Evan to look into this, but we're really not sure what could be happening. Have you tried disabling extensions/etc?

I've disabled 3 (Greasemonkey, Google Translate and savefrom.net helper) and I'll see what happens when I try again.

It works on 3 individual images (used the Secure Boot step from that pictures) with those disabled. I even created (but not saved) some I made to test it. It fails when I have Greasemonkey enabled (with everything else disabled). I have since disabled Greasemonkey and enabled everything else and it now works. Firefox ESR 52.7.3 (64-bit).

Awesome! I hope that's a long-lived solution! Let us know if you have any more trouble =)
