What does UD stand for?

Hmm Not sure which one applies to the subject of this post. @danj can you clarify UD?

by

UD = Up Date

Best I could do with the character limits of the subject line.

@captainsnowball - I don't think IFIXIT want's to wake the sleeping giant!

Our friend Jessa Jones just had her reverb'ed iPad mini displays intercepted by customs because Apple made a stink! LIVE interview with Jessa Jones - Apple/customs parts SEIZURE!

Apple has been using some heavy tactics to kill independent repair shops and its clear they are designing $2-3k throw-away laptops now. Until we stop drinking Apples Kool-Aid we are all hostage to them.

Or... Until someone in Apple wakes up and resets the direction they are traveling. Throw-away is not ecology minded!

Kool-Aid? what?

I can't speak for all of iFixit, but in general, a class-action lawsuit isn't really our style. Class action is more about getting relief/compensation for folks who feel they were sold a defective product. We'd rather empower consumers to demand more repairable products in the first place, so that companies like Apple will make serviceability/upgradeability a higher priority in their product designs. That's a bigger, harder goal, but ultimately more worthwhile (and more fun as you guys already know).

That aside, Apple is arguably helping our case here. All the upset customers and embarrassing PR they're getting over these keyboards could probably have been avoided if they'd designed a machine that didn't require a $700 top case replacement when it gets slightly dirty. Many of us love Apple and (certain) Apple products, but sometimes you just have to stand back and let them pour gasoline on their own fire.
