Has the Retina MacBook 2016 and 2017 the same keyboard?

Retina Macbook 12" A1534 (2016)

Hi guys,

Since ifixit sell the same upper case for the 2016 and 2017 model it should be the same Keyboard right ?

You can find the link here :

[product|IF301-023]

On the Wikipedia-Website you can find that the 2017 MacBook Retina Model has the second generation Butterfly Keyboard.

So my Question is:

Do ifixit sell the upper case with the gen2 Butterfly Keyboard?

If yes, so i can upgrade my Keyboard of my 2016 MacBook Retina Model?

Thanks for your help.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The 2017 has a 2nd generation Butterfly keyboard while the 2016 has the 1st generation. If you can confirm 100% compatibility, find the APN for the 2017 and purchase that if they can be interchanged.

I don’t think it’ll work because Apple likes to make subtle (but annoying) changes to physically prevent this.

I believe that keyboard would work fine with your MB but I don’t know what gen butterfly keyboard it has.
