iFixit is a DIY site where most of it’s content is created by the users of the site itself, not iFixit staff. There currently isn’t a way to suggest such a thing but it would be nice to have something like that.

@ajcooke01v2 is correct. Unfortunately we can’t do a teardown of every device, but if you’d like to make one yourself that would be awesome! Feel free to check out teardowns for similar devices on iFixit for reference. Best of luck!

@kristen I also think it has to do with the age in some cases.

In my case, my personal rule is I need to already have it, know how to work on it and it needs to be relevant to the majority (Ex: If it's one of those cheap eMMC Win10 systems I may not do it if the device is old enough the Celeron processor or eMMC is a crippling problem at that time). I will not buy the device UNLESS I need one for another project I'm working on and the request happens to be similar to what I bought (I say related because I probably purchased a higher end model then the OP owns, since I'm already getting it heavily discounted). I won't do the guide unless those conditions are met.

Yes, it rules out a lot of old hardware like the Pentium M era laptops and some of the older Core 2 Duo ones like the Latitude D Series for me. It's nothing against anyone - I just won't do it unless it makes sense and it usually doesn't at that point in time. The only person likely to need it is the person asking.

@nick the point of ifixit is to keep stuff running for as long as you can! someone out there might've used those guides you took down.

I don't take them down lightly. If I took it down that means it's from a darker time and it's incomplete, unusable or needs that much rework. If I already made it and it's acceptable I won't kick in the current rule but if it's a new request then yeah, it applies. More often then not I consider the guide "author archived" and stop maintaining it.

Another scenario is I replaced it with a more universal guide (or altered something that does the same job so I can retire the specific guide). I did this with the LJ 1012 Vista driver when I went to the UPD guide. Sometimes it comes down to someone did a better job then I did and I'm pulling my guide out because it makes no sense if mine has problems.

If for some reason they need a very specific guide (which is unlikely) I'll bring it back with cleanup work if it's needed again but I've found the guides I pull back get no use and it's not very harmful to merge 2 into one and retire the specific guide. I don't feel bad about this because all it takes to get my attention to check is to @ me and I'll check when I can do so.

Hi @sailor4 ,

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop, taken from this webpage.

Scroll to section 4-41 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the power connector.

The part number is 600719-001.

If you search online using the part number only you’ll get suppliers of the part.
