Problems? iFixed! (or: thank you for everything!)

Disclaimer: I wanted to share my experience with iFixit so that other potential customers could read it. I hope this board is ok!

Here’s the thing: the biggest hardware manipulation I have done in the past was to install an SSD drive on my MacBook Pro 2009, removing the Disc Reader, using an iFixit guide. It was somehow tricky, but enjoyable.

So, a few days ago I decided: it’s time to restore my iPhone 6 (and give it to my mother :P).

I order the display, a battery, the tools needed and a plastic tray on a friday night - on wednesday I receive a box that welcomes me with four words:

YOU CAN DO IT

I’m excited, I follow scrupulously the iFixit guide, trying to be as careful as I can be every time I read “…try to not touch this… the cable is extremely fragile… the cable is attached with your arch-nemesis the Glue™…” and a mere three hours later (cough cough) the iPhone is back in business.

I was euphoric, but this didn’t last for more than a few minutes…

After using the Notes app, which has a white background, I notice a very slight, but very present, blue stain on the screen. Nothing too bad, honestly, but still not something that I was expecting from what should have been a top-quality screen.

It is late in the evening, and I send a feedback to the customer care, attaching a picture of the problem.

The following morning customer care replies, stating that the display was probably defective, and that they would immediately send me a new display. Note that in my original e-mail I just stated what was happening and I asked what were my options, so this caught me by surprise and made me realise, again, how lucky I’ve been to have entrusted iFixit in the first place.

In conclusion, I was facing a challenging task for a noob in hardware repairs, but iFixit gave me direction (with its guides), hope (with the message in the box :D) and help (with its customer service).

Again, thank you so very much from Italy!
