Help me get into Uni please!

Hello,

I am a sixth form student from the UK studying A-level product design during at the moment in my NEA (a part of my course) I have chosen to help create a better “iPhone repair station” this is because I used to fix phones for my friends and family and really enjoyed it and though that it could be improved.

I understand that most people don’t use a setup instead they just work on a table this is exactly how I used to work however there are many cons that I have spotted like the screws getting mixed up or when something falls and bounces on the table and gets lost in the carpet.

If anyone has any suggestions can you please reply to this with your suggestion and tell me what it is and what issue it would solve for you.

Thanks everyone.

Hi there @ahmed1212

Thanks for posting on this forum. Something like the product @raj_shukla posted would definitely work as an alternative to simply leaving all the screws and components on the table. For our iFixit Technical Writing Project, we advise students to use a magnetic project mat when disassembling their devices, so that they don’t lose or miss screws (and other components). So if you’re looking into designing a better product for an iPhone repair station, keep in mind that a magnetic surface may prove to be very useful!

We hope your project goes well. Happy fixing!

Hey @jogihara thank you for your advice I will definitely look into it and probably will implement it in my final project. Do you have any other advice or personal suggestions ? It would be very helpful thanks !

Another thing you may want to consider when designing your product would be the material you would use to create your product. Nowadays, consumers are more receptive to businesses that support environmentally friendly initiatives compared to years prior. I'm no expert in materials engineering, but I've heard bamboo and cork are the most environmentally friendly materials for production. I'd say the next step in your project is to research the materials you could use to produce your final product, and see how using those materials for production affects the environment. I hope this helps!
