Stuck in Media Manager

Still trying to post my first question on the forum I now find I am stuck in the media manager. I uploaded one jpg file to the media manager but now there is no reaction to the ‘Exit x’ button and I cannot get back to the forum.

I am acessing the site using Firefox 69.0.2 on an iMac with macOS 10.14.6.

What am I doing wron?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

This system is driving me crazy. After writing a response to Kristen's answer, it was rejected as > 1024 characters. Then, after cutting it back (admittedly in the window above “Post comment” rather than in the original answer), all I got was still this…

Suprisingly the “Insert the image” worked successfully here.

I’m giving up till tomorrow now.

Sadly the above attempt doesn't display the message displayed (which said 'ERROR - IFIXIT MEDIA / Your comment is too long...', although I had shortened the comment). The difference between comments and answers certainly isn't clear to me.

@espri how long was your comment? Besides the obvious difference between a comment and a question, on the Answers forum the difference is the character length for comments must be less that 1024 characters and you cannot include images or attachments to comments

@oldturkey03, my comment was indeed >1024 chars and included an image. However, the difference between comment and question had't been obvious to me, especially since I had written it originally as an answer, as that seemed to be the only place that allowed inserting an image (I guess I should have recognised that meant comments didn't support them). But after inputting it all as an answer, on saving it a menu offered 4 (I think) options and of those 'Comment' seemed the most logical as the text wasn't a solution to my problem.

Surely the system should at least ask for confirmation of a conversion to a comment when the data can't be fully converted, because it is too long or contains images?

Hi Eric,

Sorry to hear you're having issues. We appreciate you providing your browser info and computer model. If you're still experiencing issues, can you please send us screenshots of what's happening on your end and describe exactly what you’re trying to do? This will help us better diagnose the issue.

In the meantime, here are some tips for using the Media Manager: Your image will remain in the Media Manager if you select "Exit," but it will not upload to the forum. If you are trying to upload an image to the forum, simply click on the image itself after uploading it to the Media Manager.

I hope this helps!

I thought I had posted this morning a quite extensive comment on the results of my efforts to take a screenshot related to this problem (still hung after posting a photo) but that seems to have completely disappeared. If it doesn't turn up, I'll try to respond again later, probably tomorrow.

Thanks, Kristen. Here's my attempt to explain my problem:

I want to post a question on the Answers Forum. I had written a couple of lines and then clicked the ‘Insert an image’ icon. The Media Manager window appears and I clicked on the photo I wanted to insert. A reference to this appears in the question, e.g. image|1858164 (in square brackets). Then I clicked the ‘Exit x’ button. Doing that the Media Manager window "blinks", i.e. disappears briefly but then comes back and then remains displayed. Now the ‘Exit x’ button on the Media Manager window won't respond, so I am stuck with that window displayed and can't write further in my question.

Here's an attempt to show what I saw - though maybe it will hang here too when I try to import the screenshot...

!! That’s strange!! That worked this time but when I did the same trying to specify my question (and on some earlier attempts to write this reply), it still hangs in the Media Manager. I’ve now gone back and tried to post the question in the main forum again but there the ‘Exit x’ button still refuses to work after the Media Manager window has re-appeared. So I still can’t create my question.

@oldturkey03, this is the menu I referred to in the comment above…

Block Image

It suggests replying as a comment but without any hint that the comment is of restricted length and can’t contain images.
