Question about iFixit Valkyrie authentication popup

Hello iFixit team,

Sometime, when I use the search bar on iFixit, I get a popup window that opens once the search results are displayed, see the picture bellow :

Block Image

It’s been multiple times I see this popup window appear automatically when I made a search, so it is possible you see multiple login attempt failed in the log of the valkyrie.ifixit.com platform.

So, because it’s been multiple times I see this popup window appear automatically, and because I know it’s an HTTP authentication popup (see Basic access authentication), I was wondering what is valkyrie.ifixit.com ?

The web browser I use is Google Chrome latest stable version.

EDIT after investigation about that :

I got more info about why I see this authentication popup appear.

It seems when I made a search, inside the result returned by iFixit server (inside the HTML code that is received after making a search), some pictures have a link pointing to valkyrie.ifixit.com and these pictures need authentication to be accessed, so that’s why I got the authentication popup.

Here is a picture bellow showing an HTTP query automaticaly made by the web browser (I use Google Chrome) to retreive one of the picture to display that is stored into valkyrie.ifixit.com and that need authentication :

So I have a second question : why ressources with unauthorized access are returned when I make a research on iFixit ?

Answered! View the answer I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Brendan! Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure why the popup window is appearing when searching on iFixit, but I'll try to get some answers for you.

Hey there @es_six,

We are sorry about this issue and thank you for reporting it. There was a bug where some images would link to an internal service, Valkyrie. We fixed the bad URLs and are looking to ensure this does not happen again.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

I hope you found the article you were looking for!

Best,

Jarred
