How to I report a bug?

How do i report a bug in the solder station?

I know it can also be used as a pd power supply. When i plug in my s24 ultra, my s23 ultra, or my friends s24 plus it will only output 2.2 watts.

However using the very same usb cord my steam deck will charge at 46.8 watts.

When i have my phone plugged in and charging at 2.2 watts, i plug in the solder iron into the other port. It automatically switches the display, i press the blue button to change the display to the side my phone is on, it goes to 18.9 watts.

Then i unplug the solder iron and temporary drops to 0.5 then up to 27.2 but after about one minute drops to 9.6. But my Samsung has 45 watt charging. Yes fast charging is on. And my steam deck will happily take 45 watts from the ifix it station.

If my solder iron is plugged in first, then i plug in my phone it will only ever go to 2.2 watts for the port my phone is in. If i unplug then plug in the iron it goes up.

This is all with the solder iron physical switch off.

If i turn on the solder iron the 18.9 drops to 9.0, i get that as the iron needs a lot of power so I totally understand when the iron is turned on that the output of the second port be lowered.

Now when i have my steam deck plugged in and it is drawing 46 watts, i plug in the iron, still turned off but plugged in, the side for the steam deck goes down to 18.5. If i turn on the iron it drops to 17.0. That is perfectly expected.

It seems the stations is cutting power back from the steam deck in anticipation for the iron to be used.

if i plug in my phone and steam deck, the deck charges at 26.4 and the phone only 2.2, then i unplug the deck and the phone goes up to 26.2.

i plug the deck back in and it goes to 37.9 but the phone goes to 15.3.

If i only plug in the phone it only ever charges at 2.2. Ever.

I have updated the iron and station software.

It is a very high quality usb cord capable of 100 watts.

I tried turning off and on the station, phone and deck.

It seems to me there is a bug in the power delivery and i hope i provided enough details for it to be sorted out.

Ifixit said to report it here but i found no option to report a bug so i hope this is the right place. If not can someone please tell me where.

It will be rare that i use the station as a battery bank to charge my phone so this is not a big deal for me, but it may be for others.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@colinp80417 ,

Thanks so much for the detailed report—and for sticking with us while we work out the kinks.

I’ve gone ahead and forwarded this to our product development team, and they’re currently looking into the behavior you described. The info you shared is incredibly helpful in tracking down the issue.

And to answer your original question: you actually did exactly what we recommend when reporting a bug—posting to Meta. That’s the best way to get it in front of the right people. For reference, here’s our official guidance on reporting bugs:

Where can I report a bug?

We really appreciate your time and effort here. If we have any updates or follow-up questions, we'll post right here in this thread.

Also, please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

That's a fair question, and I think you have found a bug. The Power Station does not currently support PPS, which, I believe, is the charging protocol that allows for the Galaxy lines to charge at super-fast speeds. I suspect that the Samsung phone is trying to negotiate a PPS handshake, failing, and then defaulting back to USB2.0 charging (~2.5W). It's strange that it can be successful if something else is plugged into the other port first, we'll look into that. If you want, you could try turning off "super fast charging" on the Samsung phone just to see if that lets it directly charge via USB-PD. We'll get a fix in the works, and roll out PPS for the power station in the future.

You've done some good sleuthing on the power management, but I don't see anything that isn't "as designed". Essentially, the Power station will always prioritize an iFixit tool regardless of how much power it is currently drawing. We're working on a specification for better power balancing between the front ports based on how much power the devices are actually requesting, but there are a lot of edge cases that we want to make sure we get right before release to the public.

Thank you for the info. Yes i did try turning off fast charging. Usually my phone will charge around 10 to 15 watts with it turned off, but it stayed at 2.2. However i only did this once and it was while charging at 2.2 i did not try unplugging it during fast charging being off.

But yes if i plug anything else if, even my nitecore 18650 charger with no battery in it, then my phone charging will jump up.

And like i said it really doesnt bother me because realistically i may never use it to charge my phone. I just wanted to report this. Seems like a great solder station
