Can anyone take a look at this guide quickly?

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Windows+-+U...

I made this moreso when people ask how to bypass the Win11 nonsense around the account issue, we have a resource. Can someone check this over and make sure I did not miss anything?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@nick , I’ve only made a USB bootable drive a couple of times myself, so these are just things I noticed from that experience:

  • In the intro, when you mention “bypassing the Microsoft account mandate,” it might help to quickly explain what that means and why someone might want to do it.
  • Step 2 talks about formatting an old drive. Maybe a quick pointer on how to do that in Windows would help folks who haven’t done it before.
  • Step 5 says “make sure the drive boots”. Might be worth a short note that you’ll need to choose the USB drive from the BIOS/UEFI menu, or link to a guide on how.
  • In Step 2, maybe add a quick reminder for people to read the intro notes about Rufus so they don’t miss that version info.
  • The USB size tips in the intro are really detailed. Maybe they’d be easier to digest if they were in their own section further down?

Overall, it’s a super clear guide. These are just little tweaks that might make it even easier for someone totally new to follow.

I did kind of rush it out to a point. Not entirely of course but some elements were rushed. For formatting I’ll show the basic quick steps and for the boot menu I’ll just post photos of the BIOS from my HP 640 G9 and maybe Dell G15 to show what to look for. The issue is there’s too many BIOS variations for a dedicated guide :/. That said I did clarify it has to be done from the BIOS.

I did add on the reason to bypass the Microsoft account nonsense, and shortened the USB note a bit. The reason it had a few shortcomings was I cloned this guide and modified it: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/USB+Install...

On one hand I expect most people using this to bypass the requirements on a borderline PC like 7th gen Intel or Ryzen Zen chips before Zen+ but it’s useful for reinstalls too.
