Problem (bug?) on User Account activity page

Hi @krisrodriguez

Have noticed over the last couple of weeks that the page count on my User Account Activity page is going down and not up.

Not sure how many entries are needed to fill a page, but for years the page count has been going up as I contributed to the site and now suddenly it is starting to count down as I contribute

Below are two images showing the Activity page count from my account and @oldturkey03's account for the dates 28/12 and 30/12.

As can be seen on mine it dropped from 536 to 535 (it has been up to 538) whereas it increased from 795 to 797 for Mike's account

I haven't checked any others except these two accounts

Seems like the problem has been resolved.

Page count has stopped going down and has gone up to 540.

Just to clarify.

I didn't do anything to resolve the problem as it kept on counting down after I had initially notified and heard back from you about it .

Then it started counting up again a few days ago so I assumed it was something done at your end.

The problem is back.

The page count was up to 542 last week then it went straight back down to 535 (went straight there, didn't count down sequentially to that number), then it started counting up sequentially from 535 to 540, where it was this morning. Early this afternoon it was back down to 539 but a few hours later it's back up to 540 after I posted some answers/comments.

@jayeff, I looked into it and for performance reasons, we only load a fixed window of your most recent activity history (up to about 7,000 entries).

After we pull that window, we do an extra pass to filter out activity types that aren’t meant to show up on the public Activity feed.

The side effect is: once you’ve got a lot of history, older items can fall outside that window, and the number of pages you see can fluctuate day to day as new activity pushes the window forward (and as filtering removes more or fewer entries).

We know this isn’t ideal. We’d like to improve it, but it’s not at the very top of our priority list right now—so for the moment, this is expected behavior.

Also: if there’s a different way you’d prefer the Activity page to work (or different info you’d rather see there), let us know. And also for contributing so much that we literally can't load all of it :)
