Problem uploading .webp images on iFixit

Is this just a skill issue for me, or does any one else also have problems with uploading .webp images, both here and in main iFixit?

I am getting this popup, whenever I upload .webp images. For example, if I have a 200Kb 2000x1800px (3.6MP) .webp, then I'll get the error bellow:

Even more strange, if I were to upload a .webp image as small as a 520 bytes, at 50x40px (i.e. 0.002 MP), I'd get the same error were I should instead get the error "Image must be at least 50x50 pixels."

I've tried both on a chromium based and Firefox based browser on Windows 11.

.webp has never worked for me - it's too large. You need to convert them to anything else that is supported. I have always used Affinty Photo for it. It's more advanced then a basic converter, but it works very well for it as if you need to downsize an image, you can also do that as well.

So far I've been using Gimp to get around the issues, still a funny error

Hey @meekvixen

You're absolutely right, that error is definitely confusing. Getting "too large" for a 520-byte file doesn't make any sense (at least it's funny).

It looks like .webp files aren't properly supported by the uploader, and the error message isn't accurate. I'm passing this along to the dev team to see if we can either add proper .webp support or at least fix the error to reflect what's actually happening.

Really appreciate you bringing this up and including all those details!

@nick , thank you for extra details and screenshots!

I’ve dealt with it enough to know the webp error signs, just never mentioned it being a nuisance bug.
