Apple TVs vs Android Media Players

I've had a small WD TV for several years now, it's gone out now, and I'm looking to replace it. I have a lot of PBS & BBC programs downloaded and I used a flash drive to load them on from my Mac. I see Apple has three versions of the Apple TV, the older ones had hard drives. A new one can be had from Apple in the refurb section for $75. I looked on eBay and I saw all kinds of machines being offered, a lot of them jail broken. My only understanding of jailbroken was on the iPhones so they could be used with other carriers. I have about 2 TB of stored video programs on my Mac. I like to know what others here, experience is with these machines and maybe what to get and what to stay away from. I do have a wireless Linksys N router if that makes a difference and a 16 Mbps cable modem. I'm hardwired into my Mac Pro. Or should I spend my bucks on a Apple AirPort Extreme ac?

Thanks

I used to stream video from my fileserver over a g network; you should be fine with n as long as there isn't too much packet loss (and you're not doing extremely high-bitrate files).

No experience with an Apple TV, though. I can tell you that I'm extremely satisfied with my Boxee Box, but that comes primarily from it being mplayer-based, and I have a lot of files other media devices (including the Apple TV) won't play.
