Can we delete a question where all or most answers are flawed?

I saw a contribution by a fellow member trying to clarify that a whole thread of answers before were all wrong. And they are terrible answers indeed.

Here's the thread.

In such cases where not even one answer is good enough except the last contribution which many should miss since it's only the last one and NOT the chosen one, isn't it more productive to just delete the whole question and answers, or can we mod in a way to delete all bad answers and keep just the new/correct answer?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I didn't see your "correct" answer on the thread ;-)

Hi Kay Kay,

I see this post is a bit dated but you really do need some moderation. I frequently see posts that are borderline juvenile and have nothing to do with a contribution. Here's an example:

Mit Smaak no moderator can find all of these rather interesting questions, answers, or comments. That is where users like you come in. You can flag those tyopes of response by clicking on >Option>Moderate>REmove as not an answer (or simialr) That will flag this question in Moderation and allows us to review etc. Also, instead of posting an incomplete screenshot it would help if you post a link to those question. It'll make the job of moderation easier.

ok ok, but you could be a little more polite and concise. Sorry I missed the "option". The screen shot is as complete as it needs to be!. Btw, I am a member of several professional forums and mostly the moderators do a far better job.

However seeing Rany's comments; I think that is actually not the intention here...too bad!

oops, I meant Kay Kay's comment...

Hey Mit Smaak. You're right! These types of comments & posts are definitely not productive/have nothing to do w/ contribution. But like Oldturkey mentioned, it's really hard for us to find all these posts :( We rely on our community to help police & report these issues, but I can chat with our team to try to develop tools to help us more easily find them. If you have any ideas on how we can improve this problem, we're definitely open to hearing them!

Additionally, my comment below wasn't in reference to bad posts; it was in reference to posts that have multiple answers w/ conflicting opinions about the solution—we (like many other forums) rely on community upvoting/downvoting to push good answers to the top of threads. We absolutely want to moderate juvenile posts, so please flag them if you see them!

We want everyone to contribute, but it's clear we need to set more rules of engagement. Please feel free to chat me anytime with ideas you have to improve the site. Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Rany,

Thanks so much for your feedback!

We typically don't get involved in policing individual questions for accuracy. Through our upvoting/downvoting system, it's our hope that the best answers rise to the top and are chosen as the appropriate solution. We don't delete answers unless they are spammy, or offensive. We do this as a way to encourage participation. Our main goal is to provide an infrastructure that makes it as easy as possible for members to share and find knowledge. There's typically more than 1 way to do a repair, and having input from multiple community members can often lead to a better solution.

For more information, you can read our official Answers Moderation Policy here.

See if that's ridicule:

In the 1960's they would tell you that to loose weight, avoid drinking water because it bloated you and made you fat.

In the 1980's I would hear people saying that during diet, eat toasted bread instead of fresh bread to reduce calories intake (in this corner of the world).

Both "concepts" are now dead, buried, and ridiculed.

Point is, what seemed true or the norm has been scientifically proven wrong now. Instead of spending time modding this rice issue for example, why not do some mopping when the whole thread is flawed?

That's my opinion anyhow.

by

Should've set it up as a topic for discussion :)

by

@rany trying to moderate this site is like using a mop during a tidal wave ;-) The moderators are just working people like yourself and some stuff is just to stinky to try to clean up. Only so many hours in the day that we can give. You have to let the marginal BS slide and go after the really bad stinky stuff and there's plenty of that. You are a great contributor and your efforts are really appreciated, at least by me. I'd really love to show up at your door some day and take you out for some refreshment ;-)

by

@mayer I'm taking you up on that refreshment. Cow milk or beer, I can go either way ;)

Thanks for the upvotes too.
