Use of CC licensed images from other sources e.g. Wikimedia

I understand that user contributions to iFixit are licensed under Creative Commons (CC), which IMHO is the right thing to do :)

However, I'm not sure if it's acceptable to use CC licensed material from other sources in iFixit content, e.g. how is attribution handled?

Any considered opinions and suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi there,

Ideally any images used with a Creative Commons license should have attribution w/ the name of the original author. Are there specific image examples you could link me to on our site? I'd be happy to look into this a bit more.

Thanks!

My question was not so much about possibly infringing images on iFixit, but more about guidelines to use third party CC images in a non-infringing manner.

Maybe I should have been more clear about this.

Specifically, I wanted to add the EOS 50D to the section of Canon DSLR cameras, since it's conspicuously missing from the lineup :) so I'd need a nice pic of this camera to add to the page.

I own a 50D so I could take a pic myself and do the appropriate post-production to get an acceptable image, but I'm lazy and I think it's a bit silly to reinvent the wheel since a good quality image is already available under CC-BY-SA, here:

Unfortunately, we don't have an elegant way for you to attribute images. Most community members will place a note at the bottom of their guide when using using shared images. Hope this helps!

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

OK, I'll put the attribution in a note at the bottom of the page then.

However, I respectfully propose a "source" attribute be added to image objects, for the delectation of the more discerned editors ;) This would also avoid confusion in case multiple images from different sources are used on a single page.

That's a good idea! I'll be sure to pass that along to the team :) Thanks for the feedback.
