iFixit Classic Pro Tech Tool Roll

Good morning,

It's the first time that I visit this site and i have found a lot of intresting things. The point is: I would like to buy this object (iFixit Classic Pro Tech Tool Roll) but the shipping fees are very high. After two minuts I read that there is also a europe store. So I think:"it's fantastic! The shipping fees will be much lower" and I try to visite the europe one. But unfortunately, and I don't understand why, the same object is not present into the europe store, but only in this one. Can someone explain me why?

I believe Claudio is asking about the tool roll rather than the entire kit.

Keep in mind the tool roll is just a carrier/organizer, and does not include tools. If this is your first time on iFixit, maybe it's the toolkit itself (including the tool roll) that you want—and that is indeed available in the EU store. However, you may want to opt for the newer Pro Tech Toolkit, which has some additional bits and tools.

Hope this helps!

Yes I know. I already have screwdrivers and others stuff! I would like to buy only a tool roll (empty) to fill with my tools. But unfortunately this one that I want is not present in the UE store. Thank you anyway ;)

@jeffsu - Query, does the EU store get supplied on a regular basis from the California location? If so could a delayed delivery option be added? If shipping charges are to high the EU, could they possibly be put in a delayed option? Products ordered for that part of the world would be shipped to Germany and then forwarded at a reasonable rate. Yes, there is a delay but the customer gets the product at an affordable price, you get the sale, win, win.

Thank you for the answer. It's the first time that I hear about this procedure. I can try to ask to Ifixit. I simply check that this tool roll is present only in the U:S. store and not in the UE. I will try to do what you say. Thank you.

@mayer this will of course only work if the California store supplies the EU store. If ifixit uses drop shipments from the suppliers it probably won't.

@oldturkey03 - i understand that. I do not know the business status of iFixit. As far as I know it's a sole proprietorship. It takes a lot of cash to grow rapidly and supply locations around the world. That's why they need to go public when they have a winning deal. To raise the capital to put up sales locations all over the globe. I was a stock broker at one time. They need a store in South America, Asia and the Middle East. How many times and questions have we had abut outrageous shipping costs and tariffs to SA and Canadian and Europe. It's tariffs. They are losing all those sales. I wanted to retire to Equator but can't because of the imposed shipping costs for someone to send me a Mac to fix, prices me right out the market.

The company has grown enough, and I'm talking to you @kyle, it's time to start thinking about going public and going global. Yes it's a big jump, but you're a big boy and have built a great organization with very good people. But making that jump requires capital, organization, and great people. As a bunch of Eagle scouts you have had that from an early age. Take the people with you who built you too. I'd be very happy with a little stock. I'm sure OT and Dan would too. We're getting old. at least I am. We've been as loyal as any employee you have and asked nothing. Only @kaykay has shown any appreciation for the work we've done for years, everyday, seven days a week. Please excuse me for getting on a rant. I seem to be doing more of that lately. I'm having blood pressure medication issues and have not gotten it under control.

Meanwhile the government of China is obviously subsidizing shipping costs to the US. I can order parts from China with free shipping and get them for half what I can here. But shipping a repaired MacBook Pro to Shanghai costs me $55 both ways.

BTW @kyle I do have to thank you. That discount you now give to resellers has meant a lot to me. I can now go to another browser, that I'm not logged into, find a part on iFixit and show my customer the part prices that i intend to charge them. In no other business do I know of, do people expect you to sell them parts at cost. I've had only one person ask me in the last ten years if I don't need to make something for my time spent finding the right part. It's only about one in twenty people on this site that even acknowledge the time and energy spent to help them.

@cdp if nothing else I am certain, that if you want to purchase the roll in the US store, one of us volunteers could forward it to you. How much is shipping from the ifixit store to your location? what is your location?

@oldturkey03 - I don't think iFixit is overcharging on shipping, that's just what it costs due to tariffs. You can't even ship to Canadian it's so imbalanced.

I helped this guy out in England but it cost me about $30 to ship him an old repaired power supply and I don't know how much he had to pay in tariffs to get it, but China can ship to me with no shipping charges. https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/2789...

How does iFixit compete with a rigged game? I'll be voting for trade reform in November, the playing field is not level. To quote Strutter Martin, "I'm not getting old, I'm getting colorful."

by

@mayer no way would I think that ifixit is over charging. some of the carriers are. I found that sometimes regular USPS postage is the cheaperst way to go. Just an option I suggested to @cdp I'd still have to know where the shipping would go to etc. I regularly get packages from the old country and am always amazed by the cost of shipping as well as the taxes that other countries have. We need to realize how lucky we still are :-)

by

@oldturkey03 I know iFixit is not overcharging. We need to have a new question on this issue. I posted it.
