"iCloud Removal Unlock Apple ID" is there now a credible possible fix

We got a lot of answers in today purporting a fix for locked Apple products by this guy:https://www.ifixit.com/User/Contribution...

I'm very tempted to just get the guy banned for SPAM but wanted to check with ya'll to see if it might now be a valid solution.

I did a search on eBay for "iCloud Removal Unlock Apple ID " and came up with several.

Are all these scams? Does anyone know anything about them or have any actual experience using one?

@mayer - Sorry just not possible under the newer iOS devices & iOS versions.

Look at it this way: The FBI couldn't do it, and only because the phone was an older iPhone 5c was the company the FBI hired able to do it. They had to do it by poking at the phones circuit board (for a million bucks!) Maybe in 5 or so years we'll get the chance to see if this was worth it (I think not).

Here's something that might interest you! iPhone passcode bypassed with NAND mirroring attack

So it appears one can brute force most iPhone using this technique! Just don't ask for the iPhone or iPad back though ;-} This still doesn't get rid of the iCloud lock.

From what I know, and have found to be the case, there is no way to bypass or hack the iPhone to go beyond the iCloud lock. No service will be able to unlock the device, no matter what they promise, and it's more effective to throw your money away.

There is an exception to this rule that I have seen, and that is if you have the original receipt from Apple with the serial number of the device on it, Apple may be able to unlock it for you. However even that isn't guaranteed.

That's just my observations, and I think because so many of these have been sold on eBay and Craigslist, that people want a chance to redeem the phone so they don't think that they are throwing money away. Then when they do pay these services, they throw more money away and end up tossing the device, or selling it again to some poor schmuck.

The conspiracy theorist in me suggests that the people that put these sites out are the very people selling these devices, to then make money on these sites. Again, that's just the conspiracy theorist in me.

@mike I have a nice 64GB iPad II Wi-Fi It came in for repair but was never picked up and the customer disappeared. It is not locked but when you go to set it up it does say it is tied to a user. The problem is, it only one letter of the email name and one on the address so I cannot contact the individual. So I end up with a worthless machine that I have money into repairing. How can these people stay on eBay if they are all scams?

A few years ago we tried getting a few unlocked. At the time they could only get the phone into emergency mode allowing you to call within the area (911 calling for help), accept inbound calls, and access to the web, nothing more! With the newer firmware & iOS updates even that is not possible from what I've heard.

One thing that has happened in the OS-X/macOS space with the newer firmware updates your desktops & laptops are now fully locked under iCloud if you enable it from one of your mated devices. The way this is done is differently than iOS devices, as they need to have access to the internet.

by

@mayer @mike is absolutely correct. By following some of theses" unlockers" you may get partial function, but never what an iPad should be. Remmembr that you will also have to tear it apart, solder a 1005 size resistor and then hope you get some function. I am with @mike about the spam conspiracy. Save your money and stay away from locked devices. Next user that pops up offereing this service, I go half with you on the cost and we send your iPad in ;-). That will help to either expose it as a scam or you made a major breakthrough

@oldturkey03 - I believe the newer iOS devices don't have this exposure any more which was how the FBI consultant was able to gain access to the terrorist iPhone.

I agree! Don't fall of these snake oil scams. I wish there was a way to get eBay and other sites to pull these scams.

by

@mike - I think you'er onto something here! Clearly there is some level of conspiracy as I'm sure a few people have told eBay or Craigslist they were swindled! So why do they keep them? mmm ... I think it all comes down to money! eBay & Craigslist make money supporting these scams!
