May I custom order a tiny miscellaneous part?

I broke a ground finger in my iPhone 4C. It split into two along its fold. This finger touches rear facing camera, is encountered when removing or inserting logic board. Since iFixit sources parts from pre-owned devices, iFixit should have access to tiny lightweight miscellaneous parts such as grounding clips and screws.

Is it possible to order a little misc part from iFixit, a part which is not present in iFixit's catalogue? How about if I am ordering a pricey catalogue item, then may I have a little piece packed in, gratis?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out with your question!

While we are happy to explore options for our customers in regards to parts, this particular grounding finger isn't something that we carry. I'm sorry about that! We just aren't set up to get those from our recycled parts supplier at this time.

I know it may seem pricey, depending on the rate the 4S is going for, but have you considered purchasing a broken 4S on a site like eBay, and then harvesting the grounding finger you need from the device? That might be a good way to source one, and doesn't run the risk of it being damaged in transit.

Also, a quick search on a different popular iPhone parts online store shows me that the grounding finger might be included in a set they have called iPhone 4S EMI shield kit! I haven't ever personally ordered anything from them, so I don't want to speak for iFixit regarding the quality of their parts or service, but you might want to check out PowerBookMedic.com.

Best of luck!

Thank you for answering. I appreciate your promptness. Truth disappoints me, I imagined: iFixit is tearing down iPhones and devices to recover parts, rather than receiving parts which were already recovered by supplier. So if iFixit did part recovery, then iFixit would have those itty bitty gold fingers, several of them to spare.

Yes, I did see 'shield kit' sets available from other Web stores. I was hoping I could buy a main part from iFixit, and get just that one ground piece added as a courtesy. That would be convenient and efficient (single shipment), and it would leave me with zero leftover parts.

Sorry we can't be of service for this particular repair need! Our recycled parts supplier team are the ones who tear down recycled devices and provide us with the functioning, used parts for sale. When there is a high enough demand for an item, we can ask them to try to source it for us from recycled devices. At this time there hasn't been a high enough demand for used (or new from manufacturer) versions of that particular piece for us to start pursuing options in sourcing them. I'm sorry about that!
