How about making an iPhone friendly answers site?

Migrated from UserVoice, originally had 25 Votes.

Admin Response:

The site should work just fine on the iPhone, but I recognize that isn't ideal. We will do a mobile CSS file eventually, but it isn't high on the queue (vote this up if you want it to be).

We don't have the resources to write a native app ourselves, but if someone is interested in writing an app we could work with them to make an API available.

I would volunteer some time into this if need be. You are right, the site works fine on the iPhone, but you constantly have to be zooming, pinching, scrolling, and 9 out of 10 times you will hit a tab or link that you did not want to click on. Thats why An iPhone App. designed with these things in mind would be ideal. Just the other day, I went to leave a comment on one of my own answers and on Mayer's answer and I unintentionally down-voted him and receive life-threatening messages from him shortly there-after. :o) All jokes aside, the App. is a terrific idea.

We would probably implement a similar API to Stack Exchange, because there are already a number of apps available for those sites. Our data structure is almost identical to theirs.

Hi,

the site works fine on the iPhone, just two things. First, the logout button is to close to the user button, when i try to hit my user button it often happened that i logged me out. Second, the buttons for Parts Store, Repair, Answers and Contribute are for me to close together, i often go to Repair or Contribute instead of Answers. Ok i'm to lazy to zoom everytime before hitting a button ;-)

We've talked of a mobile version of the site many times but currently the benefits just aren't worth the effort. We plan to have one in the future at some point. We'd also like an iPhone/iPad app.

Any chance of an android app eventually?

Several of our employees (including me) use Android phones, so when the time comes to write phone applications, I think Android will at least be on the table.

Great news! I mean once android (the better platform) has a dominant market share next year it should be a no-brainer.

This seems like the perfect opportunity for an iPhone vs Android flame war! COMMENCE! P.S. jk

Ask anyone at iFixit which is easier to repair- the latest Android phone or the latest iPhone.
