Why did ifixit raise the price of a toolset by the amount of coupon?

Block Image

I had been eyeing a tool set that ifixit sales and put it in my basket but was waiting to get some money in to buy it. Today I got a holiday coupon in my email from ifixit and it was for $10 off purchase of $20 or more. The Fix the World Bundle was $59.00 so great, that takes it to $49.00. I log into my account and find ifixit just raised the price of that kit by $10.00. What type of crap is this to give a coupon right when you raise the price of an item by the same amount of the coupon. Sounds like Santa is scrooge and his workshop at ifixit is playing a bit footloose with the pricing.

12% increase at same time as coupon?

Looks like MacTech Plus will be taking his help to ifixit elsewhere. Will see if ifixit wants to make this right. I volunteer to my community and volunteer to ifixit. I was certified by Apple in 1994 by going to their school. I’ve kept working on Mac’s since. When I work on a Mac or iPad from my area, I only charge $12.50-$15 an hour because Apple already makes enough from them. I’m on fixed income but it’s good enough. But when you volunteer your time to an organization and they stick it to you for the things you buy to keep up to date so you can correctly give them correct info , that sucks.

Sorry about the rant, it just sucks . Ken “MacTech Plus”

This seems like something for @kadan

I see how that can be annoying especially when you're saving for it.

Hey Ken,

Our Fix the World bundle was available for a lower price for Black Friday-Cyber Monday. I suspect that's the price that you're referencing when you originally put the bundle into your cart. Those deals were only good for one week, so we changed the prices back to their original after the sale. The coupon is separate from that entirely. Sorry for any inconvenience!

We appreciate your contribution to iFixit over the years. It's because of members like you that we're able to help so many people—and that's what's most important to us. I'm sending you a private email now to discuss further.

Cheers,

Kay-Kay
