What purpose does the disciplined badge serve?

From the early days we have been told to remove a downtick delete the comment or answer. I know in my case I have removed a post when a downtick brought to my attention I had misread the question and answered improperly. I then deleted the question to avoid misdirecting the OP. I am sure this has happened to others. What I now find is I have received the disciplined badge for my efforts. Is this badge really needed?

I thought this meant "I had the discipline to go back and take ownership of a mistake I made", not "I was disciplined [punished]".

An interesting thought--I hope to find you are correct in your assumption. +

Yup, bushing is right. Every once in a while, it happens that the community lets you know that your answer is wrong. If you are disciplined, and it becomes clear that the answer is wrong (after a discussion in the comments, for example), you should delete your answer.

Thanks for your reply Kyle--that explanation completely satisfies my curiosity. bushing I would give you another + if I could--you were right on.
