Why are ancient questions resurfacing?

I've noticed a recent increase of posts from 3-5 years ago, and people are answering them. Has there been a change to the system that is causing these ancient questions to float to the top? For example, one question was about iOS 9.

Is this a good question?

@avanteguarde anytime anybody makes any edits, delete comments etc. on those they resurface. Check this question/answer Is it ok to submit an answer to a really old post?

For as long as people are still having questions about those and are using those devices, it is okay to answer those.

That part I understand, but from 2014 though? How do you find such old questions? When I manually click Next page on unanswered questions, I can't even get that far. A month or a week takes an hour of clicking "next". It seems new signups have a talent of fishing out ancient questions.

not really uncommon. Just had one pop-up from 2013 https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/1495...

@captainsnowball we know how to get there. The question was who goes there and makes those old questions pop up? It's great if one provides answers to those but just to correct some inconsistencies seems to be a lot of effort....

Would it be useful to lock a post after a certain time period? Not necessarily to prevent future answers, but to prevent editing existing questions and their responses?

Is it annoying that these questions float to the top or is it just something you have noticed?
