Not sure on this one

Can someone check this link out . It starts an immediate download

rather than taking you to the site http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps...

its from this users answer https://www.ifixit.com/User/2505298/ch3o...

Not sure if you want to let someone start forcing downloads . Im making a vm to test it but thought you might want to stop it before it causes any problems.

@jimfixer that's a browser feature, not an iFixit issue. We could prevent users from posting links with certain suffixes but that is easy to circumvent. Modern browsers should be scanning files before placing them on your hard drive.

If the files were being downloaded without users clicking on them I would be concerned, but for now I think this is safe behavior. Although I can see it being problematic if people hide download links inside obfuscating text.

Either way, I think we can allow this for now. If it turns into malicious behavior we can address it accordingly.

That looks like an Asus CDN link, so it's probably okay to use. Asus doesn't provide a clean link to their drivers like HP, Dell and Lenovo so you need to link to the CDN for a direct download. Just my 2 cents on this one. The OP probably has an older machine, so they're providing a CDN link in lieu of confusing them.

If the user doesn't feel comfortable downloading it from the CDN link provided, then you can often download the driver direct from the manufacturer or go to the support page yourself and find it that way. The only time you really can't bypass the OEM for drivers is hardware like the Dell crypto card and WWAN cards, but it works for just about everything else.
