Killing the Easter Bunny

Block Image

I’m going to grab the title before Bill O’Reilly uses it.

It’s post Easter and i just got in my shipment from Russell Stover of six solid 7oz Dark Chocolate Easter Bunnies. At half price of course.

It’s spring time and great fresh strawberries are also on sale.

This equals chocolate covered strawberries!

So I need to melt the chocolate then dip the strawberries.

I’m questioning whether to use the microwave and a Pyrex container or a double boiler or something else to melt in.

Also any advice on preparation of the berries. Seems like I had a hard time getting the chocolate to stick well last time I did this. How deep to dip, do I double dip? Should the berries be cold or room temperature? Do i need to add anything to keep the chocolate from changing colors or becoming tacky?

Also what about storage? Any advice on decorations?

I'm no expert here but my girls are when it comes to chocolate anything and my youngest says to melt the chocolate put it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time till its all melted you don't want to burn it by nuking it for too long and as for the strawberries wash then well then dry them completely then stick them in the fridge till you dip them they dip best cold then back into the fridge till you eat them . Before it gets hard again you can roll it in whatever you want to decorate it with . My girls like chocolate sprinkles or shaved white chocolate. So lets see some pics when your done so we can see how they turned out .

Oh no, I going to do it. Got the ingredients. I'm a little concerned about the oil. I didn't think our Democratic friends would chime in, as they probably never heard of the "No Spin Zone".

Besides, chocolate is not a thing I would joke about. Neither is coffee. These are sacrosanct!

by

@mayer the girls say no oil it will make the chocolate less sticky and the only spinnin ya'll should be doin here is with the spoon in the melted chocolate.

Hey @mayer is a 7oz bunny enough chocolate to cover one of those Texas sized strawberries . I know everythings always bigger in Texas

@mayer ,Mayer, I think Betty Crocker would do it right, you will have to substitute your luxurious chocolate instead of chocolate chips. Yummy for the Tummy! ;-)

Link to preparation and decorating. Betty state's to add 1 teaspoon shortening or vegetable oil.

I'm no expert either.

Melt the chocolate (semi-sweet, maybe ghirardelli) 20 seconds at a time, until is becomes sorta half melted, then stir till it's smooth. Microwave a bit more then stir in a spoon full of coconut oil. Coconut oil helps with freezing on the strawberry. If you don't think it's thin enough for dipping the strawberries in, melt a bit longer. Take your cold strawberries and dip them, lay them on a rack. When your done, put them in the fridge to set.

Hope this helps, or even works.

Can't believe I missed out on this. Oddly, during one desperate winter escaping a super corporate repair job, I found myself a choclatier. Rents gotta get paid. So, I would recommend heating a small pot on the stove with your favorite chocolates and smoothing down the burning process with milk. Use a chopstick to stab the strawberries at the top, and dip them. Lay them on a tray lined with wax paper, and then use the other chopstick, and dip the large end in the chocolate, then you can create stripes on the chocolate covered berries. You can mix your colors. Depending on how many chocolates you can use. Btw. White chocolate is actually the coco butter part, that gets separated, while making chocolate. @jimfixer. I love the sprinkles ideas. Oddly I wouldn't have gone there. But thinkin about it now. My post is too late! But this could be useful next year

@theimedic remember yesterday when I said I might hit the rep limit? Today's capped out at 360 rep. I'm on top of old turkey on the Today leaderboard! No I'm not very modest. I know your thoughts.
