Can you please tear down a ventilator?

Hello Ifixit. According to the UK government we are all about to run out of ventilators in the Coronovirus apocalypse and they would very much like some engineers to start making a bunch more.

Can you please get hold of one (a broken one that can’t be used) and break it down and show us what’s inside one?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@simon1969 I wish I could tear one of ours down but BioMed is going to chop my fingers off :>) We are running a bit short right now as well and are keeping some of our older broken-down vents for spare parts. We anticipate a big need for those in the next few weeks. It is going to be a bit of a mess but we will prevail. Everybody stay safe and heed the advice given by your local health authorities. Even better, talk to your nurses to get a a real picture of what is going on. Sorry, got off on a tangent. simon, once this has settled down I will tear one down for you, even if it is the last thing I will ever tear down. For now, download the service manuals I have to see if you can learn anything from those to get you started with your project. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CSBrvQ...

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your great suggestion! Unfortunately, we can’t do a teardown of every device, but we highly encourage anyone with the equipment and knowledge to create a ventilator teardown of their own. We’re all about sharing our respective repair knowledge, so if someone brings us their technical expertise, we’ll do our best to help them publish their content on iFixit.

I hope this helps! Happy fixing, and stay safe.

Hi @simon1969,

I wanted to follow up from my previous answer. I’m not sure that we’ll be able to acquire a ventilator here at iFixit, but we are encouraging the community to share any information they may have regarding hospital equipment repair, and we’ll share any documentation on our platform.

Help Us Crowdsource Repair Information for Hospital Equipment!!

Thanks again for your great question!
