Why are the iFixit screwdriver bits sticky?

I just received my iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit and the screwdriver bits have a sticky residue on them. Is this intended to have this sticky residue?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your question. The residue you are describing sounds like oil that is used when the screwdriver bits are created. This is normal and shouldn’t have any effect on the quality of the bits. If you experience any issues with your product, please reach out to our Customer Support team.

I hope this helps!

I had the same thought also. Jason, did you think it had a reason to be there (some type of thermal paste or something)? That was my initial thought too..

So, the tacky residue has no intrinsic value?

I got my iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit recently as well. I can tell this sticky residue shouldn’t be there.

My tweezers has sticky residue on the head as well. So I ordered a BAD quality iFixit screen that come with tweezers, after compare second one DO NOT has sticky residue on the head.

Therefore, there are shouldn’t any sticky residue on them. To conclusion, their tool only looks stylish, but not good attention to details.

The issue is sticky residue on the tweezers.

I ordered two tweezers, one and after. One with tweezers, the other one no sticky residue. That's the issue here. Just reminder you of this topic is talking about sticky residue on the iFixit Toolkit.

@Andrew M-Read People paid lots of money iFixit Toolkit with this stylish design. Just want they built good quality tools. Unfortunately, they failed. It's like people bought a new iPhone, and don't want any scratches on the screen. However, what I can see from iFixit customer, they said "This is normal and shouldn’t have any effect on the quality of the bits". Do you want your new iPhone with scratched screen? and they say, "This is normal and shouldn’t have any effect on the quality of the bits"?? Interesting!
